Brunch @ Boondocks

Brunch has made its way to being my favourite meal of the day. Any free Saturday afternoon I have (which is very rare) is occupied with finding the perfect brunch spot.

First up is Boondocks, located in Old Street (5 minute walk from the station). Boondocks, part of the Feed Your Soul family and offers American Style Soul Food. Brunch runs every Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 1.30.

The restaurant itself is very open and welcoming tables are not squashed together. Their seating area spans over two floors. I immediately fell in love with the decor, my favourite part of the restaurant were the fairy lights and the jam jarred flowers. Everywhere you look something catches your eye, some restaurants try this approach with the decor but it seems to loud but Boondocks found the right balance.

Apart from brunch, Boondocks also offers American style home cooking with the messiest burgers in town and fried chicken. All food served at Boondocks is Halal, Free Range and Organic,
A wide range of options is available on the brunch menu, from waffles, pancakes, french toast to a granola bowl. There are also a handful of sides to choose from too.

My friend and I chose to have the Bootsie's Brunch Special. With the special you can get a either bottomless tea or coffee and Orange Juice or Bloody Mary. You also get the choice of any main and any two sides all for £18.

I had the Half and Half (buttermilk pancakes, eggs any way you like and sourdough toast) with Hash Browns and the breakfast beef sausage. My friend had chose Sugar Rush (blueberry and chocolate pancakes with roasted strawberries, fudge sauce and whipped cream) with fruit salad and hash browns.

The wait for food wasn't long which was good as we were sat by the kitchen and was watching all the foods going past us in hope that it was ours. When the food did come we noticed that the size of the plates were a bit too big, lucky for us the table beside us was empty so we could put condiments and cups on the spare table.

The food was great, the pancakes really stood out for me. They were fluffy, sweet and very moist they didn't need a lot of syrup on them. I was disappointed by the beef sausage I was expecting an actual sausage so I was surprised to see what looked like a miniature burger on my plate. I enjoyed my meal nothing went to waste,

Overall, I give Boondocks 4/5.
Boondocks offers good quality food, a great environment and you definitely get your money's worth whatever you decide to get. I will be visiting Boondocks for brunch again.
An honorary mention goes to whoever makes the music playlist at Boondocks they did an amazing job. They were churning out R'n'B throwbacks hit after hit which made the brunch even more enjoyable.
